Pitstop 10k
ASTRONG field of 121 runners contested the popular Pitstop 10k staged by Harriers at Croft Circuit.
Conditions were ideal and the flat course made for good times.
Men's winner was James Askew, of Newton Aycliffe AC, in 34 mins 44 secs, ahead of the experienced Alan Shepherd, of ed hardy shirts Morpeth Harriers, in 35:01. Third was Gary Hetherington (Sedgefield) in 35:12 and fourth was Darlington Harriers junior Josh Philips, who finished in an excellent time of 36:09 for his competitive road debut at this distance.
Fifth was Gareth Wilson of North York Moors AC in 36:57.
Women's winner was Julia Orr, a medical student at Dundee University, who is the daughter of Harriers' treasurer Nigel.
ed hardy shirts Representing Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, she came home in 37 mins 5 secs.
Second was Claire Lowe, of North York Moors, in 42:57 and third was Alexina Cassidy, of Swaledale. Fourth was Diane Vaughan, of Quakers, and fifth was Amanda Hetherington, of Sedgefield.
Male M40 veteran winner was Martin Murray (North York Moors) and second was Kevin Knight (Durham City). M50 winner was Michael Kavanagh (Middlesbrough and Cleveland) and second was Brian Martin (Quakers). M60 winner was Noel McLay (Quakers) and second was clubmate Daniel Gordon.
Female F35 veteran ed hardy shirts winner was Jackie Nicholls (Quakers) and second was Kersty Garratt (unattached). F40 winner was Maxine Moore (unattached) and second was Penny Johnson (Newton Aycliffe). F50 winner was Shirley Gibson (Darlington Harriers) and second was Julie Jefferies (Quakers).
The wheelchair race was won by Simon Lawson (unattached) in 25:47 and second was Jade Jones (New Marske) in 28:38.
Third was Jason Gill (unattached) in 28:38.
Boys' fun run winner was Michael Bleasby and girls' winner was Caitlin Taylor. Both represent Darlington Harriers.
Meanwhile, three Harriers entered the latest 5k time trial at Albert Park, Middlesbrough, last weekend. Joanne Tonkin was 44th in 22:38, Shirley Gibson 71st in 24:49 and Steve Dauber 123rd in 28:41.
|Harriers train on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Eastbourne sports complex at 6.15pm when new members of all ages are always welcome.
